Legal fees at Fric, Lowenstein & Co. LLP

Most legal matters have unique aspects to them and have to be billed based on the time involved and value of the services rendered. But if a matter is routine, we try to provide you with a fixed fee in advance.

Here are some of our fixed fees.  The fees quoted are for routine services rendered with respect to the categories listed.  When additional work is required we have to charge for those additional services but the items we list fees for below are usually routine and done at no additional cost.

REAL ESTATE TRANSACTION FEES

PURCHASES:

 

Purchase and Mortgage transactions under $500,000.00

Purchase Fee - $625.00

Mortgage Fee - $325.00

                                   $950.00 + disbursements (disbursements will be approximately $400.00.  Depends on exact purchase price and mortgage amount)

 

Purchase and Mortgage transaction over $500,000.00 - $650,000.00

Purchase Fee -  $650.00

Mortgage Fee - $345.00

                                   $995.00 + disbursements (will be approximately $425.00. Depends on exact purchase price and mortgage amount)

 

Purchase and Mortgage transaction over $650,000.00 - $800,000,000

Purchase Fee -  $825.00

Mortgage Fee - $400.00

                                $1,225.00 + disbursements (will be approximately $550.00. Depends on exact purchase price and mortgage amount)

 

Purchase and Mortgage transactions over $800,000.00

Purchase Fee -  $975.00 (this may be increased depending on purchase price)

Mortgage Fee - $550.00 (only if mortgage is over $600,000.00 otherwise $450.00)

                               $1,525.00 + disbursements

 

Cash Purchase Fee - $775.00 + disbursements ($250.00 and up. Depends on purchase price)

 

SALES:

 

Sale Fee - $775.00 + disbursements (approximately $150.00)

Sale Fee ($600,000.00 - $900,000) - $875.00 + disbursements (approximately $150.00)

Sale Fee (over $900,000.00) - $975.00 + disbursements (approximately $150.00)

 

REFINANCES:

 

Normal Refinance Fee - $695.00 (with 1 payout) + disbursements (depends on amount of mortgage)

*GST is also payable on fees and on some disbursements.

*Please Note that additional charges may apply for bridge financing, assignments of rents, corporate purchases, guarantees, and title insured mortgages. Please call for details.

*Disbursements are out-of-pocket 3rd party costs including Alberta Land Titles Registry, Real Property Reports, searches, couriers, etc.  

 

CORPORATE FEES

 

Incorporation of Company

Standard structure:

Legal Fees - $475.00

Filing Fee - $100.00

Government Filing Fee - $275.00 – tax exempt

Plus Disbursements and GST

 

Professional Corporation:

Legal Fees - $775.00

All other charges remain the same as above.

 

1. Annual Returns/Registered Office: $220.00

Filing Fee - $15.00

2. Amalgamations: Base Fee of $1250.00 Plus time and value fee

3. Extra provincial registration: $250.00

4. Registration of Trade Name: $120.00                                              

 

WILLS, ENDURING POWER OF ATTORNEY,

AND PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE DOCUMENTS

 

SINGLE PERSON

 

1. Will - $495.00

2. Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA) - $275.00

3. Personal Directive (PD) - $225.00

4. Will, EPA & PD package - $675.00

 

MARRIED COUPLE

 

1. Will - $625.00

2. EPA - $350.00

ESTATE PROBATE AND ADMINISTRATION FEES

 

This fee is for core services generally required.

Fee: Estates up to $150,000.00: $2,250.00 plus ½% of the value of the estate;

plus disbursements

Estates over $150,000.00: $2,250.00 plus 1% of the value of the estate plus disbursements

For estates over $1,000,000.00, fee will vary with complexity and size.  Please call us for a quote.

 

PERSONAL INJURY CASES

 

Usually we charge a contingency fee of 25% to 35% for personal injury cases.  That is, our fee is a percentage of the amount recovered, and we receive no fee until you are paid.

 

NOTARY FEES/COMMISSIONING FEES

 

1. One (1) document notarized: $60.00

     Each additional: $5.00 - $20.00

2. One (1) certified copy: $35.00
     Each additional: $20.00

3. Travel letter in standard form from Government of Canada website: $65.00

4. Specific Power of Attorney drafted by our office: $250.00

5. One (1) document commissioned: $40.00 
     Each additional: $5.00 - $20.00
